Ultrasound

Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to view the body’s internal structures – no radiation!

No Radiation

Ultrasound doesn’t use any radiation, instead, the images are created through the use of high-frequency sound waves. Ultrasound is especially useful for pregnancy imaging but it is also a very useful way to examine organs, veins, arteries, muscles and more. Usually, a layer of gel is placed on the skin to create a good contact point for the probe. The probe, or transducer, is the device that produces the soundwaves and transfers the images to a screen. Ultrasound is also used as a guiding tool for interventional procedures such as biopsies, drainages, injections and more.

Doppler ultrasound is a specialised type of ultrasound specific to viewing blood flow in your veins and arteries, usually looking for blockages or clots.
